My body is intimately united with my mind,
and both are intimately united with the cosmos, which is intimately united
with the indefinable primal formlessness of Tao. Because of this intimate
unity, I know every harmony and discord that sounds in the universal
symphony, but I cannot say how it is that I know.
—Geng Sang Tzu
"...the thing I LOVE about this course, is the attention that has been given to the quality of instructors. I can tell that everyone who is in charge of our learning is passionate about each topic which makes for a very engaging and unconventional learning environment."

Wholistic Nutrition Program | Wholistic Nutrition Student Handbook.pdf
At The Wellspring, we recognize that good nutrition is an integral part of a
healthy life. In 2007, after 15 years of teaching Introduction to Wholistic Nutrition as a class, locally and
nationally, The Wellspring responded to demand and offered its first 280-hour
certification program in Wholistic Nutrition. This program has been approved by the NANP (National Association of Nutrition Professionals). The program has proved to be a huge success--and great fun!
NEXT PROGRAM DATES:
Boise: September 25th, 2010
Portland: January 22nd, 2011
Based in the principles of wholistic healthcare, the program focuses on the
importance of foods and their energetics rather than just their nutritional
structure. Topics include seasonal, organic, and local foods; foods for the
treatment of specific disharmonies; toxic food substances and additives; pure water, foundations of
Chinese medicine; Western biochemistry and nutrition; cooking; meal planning; and more. No other
program incorporates both Western and Eastern approaches to nutrition so thoroughly.
As a Certified (W)Holistic Nutritionist (CHN)* you will be able to rekindle your connection between the food you consume and how it relates to your wellbeing and overall health. CHN's offer their clients the combined knowledge of cutting edge research with time proven traditional food based wisdom.
This 18-month program, scheduled as weekend classes once a month with breaks, is convenient and affordable
for busy or traveling participants. The program is open to anyone and is excellent as a stand-alone practice or as a complement for wholistic
healthcare practitioners, acupuncturists, physical therapists, bodywork therapists, or anyone in the healthcare
field. Space is limited, so call soon for more information.

WHAT IS AMMA THERAPY?
A classical Asian bodywork style that predates acupuncture, “Amma” is the
oldest Chinese word to describe massage. Amma is a specialized form of bodywork
therapy that combines deep, therapeutic, circular digital pressure and
acupressure point stimulation with Chinese medical principles for accessing and
treating imbalances in the energy system. Amma Therapy, like
acupuncture, focuses on the balance and movement of Qi (energy) within the
body. Whereas the acupuncturist inserts needles into the energy pathways to
stimulate and move the energy, the Amma practitioner relies primarily on the
sensitivity and strength of the hands to manipulate the client’s life Qi. Amma Therapy techniques
include both deep-tissue manipulation that is used in other forms of therapeutic massage and the stimulation
of Qi movement that is the basis of Chinese medicine.
Amma Therapy addresses problems from a multisystem, multidirectional point of view. A diagnosis
is based on the assessment of every facet of the mind/body complex, including observation of the
tongue, taking of various pulses, and evaluation of many signs and symptoms that reflect the state of
internal organs. Amma is a powerful therapy for patients of all ages for both prevention and treatment of
disease. It has been used to successfully treat and/or manage conditions including traumas such as sprains,
strains, and fractures; chronic disorders such as arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases,
circulatory problems, anxiety, depression, gynecological problems, premenstrual problems, perimenopausal
problems, menopausal considerations, autoimmune diseases, and neuromuscular disease.
WHAT THE PROGRAM TEACHES
Honoring the principles of a living art form, The Wellspring strives to maintain Amma Therapy in
its purest nature. Students learn an extensive, dynamic, and comprehensive form of wholistic healthcare
including training in a traditional Asian bodywork form, wholistic nutrition, meditation, and Qigong. We
urge each student to reach his/her highest potential and embrace a lifestyle that is congruent with these
beliefs.
